‘Learning About All Their New Brothers and Sisters, No’: Nick Cannon Details Mariah Carey’s Reaction to Him Buying Their Children This Birthday Gift

Mariah Carey is upset with ex-husband Nick Cannon after the comedian bought their twins, Moroccan and Monroe Cannon, a certain birthday gift she told him not to.

Cannon explained in Thursday’s preview clip of his show “Nick Cannon” that he bought his two eldest children cellphones to celebrate them turning 10. The twins, whom he nicknamed Roc and Roe, initially wanted cellphones at 8 years old, and even then he was “all about it.” However, it was their mother who had some reservations about the gift.

“But Mariah was like, ‘Uh-uh, they ain’t gonna be Googling us! Learning about all their new brothers and sisters, no. We aren’t playing.'” Since Carey and Cannon divorced in 2016, Cannon has had five other children — three of which were born this year alone — with three other women.

Against Carey’s wishes, Cannon “snuck” and got their children cellphones anyway, and when it came time for their birthday he said he tried to hide them from the “We Belong Together” singer. Of course, the 52-year-old ended up finding out, and even though the incident happened earlier this year in May, Cannon said, “Mariah is still mad at me to this day.” He even asked for his ex-wife’s forgiveness at the end of the clip.

The “Wild ’N Out” host opened the discussion up to his fans after posting the same clip to his Instagram. In the caption he asked, “WAS I WRONG?! What’s the best age for kids to get a phone?”

Followers, some of them being parents themselves, chimed in on the question. “These days they need phones but you will also need to monitor the phones or add restrictions,” said one person. Another agreed with Carey: “10 is NOT old enough! I agree with their mommy. #sorrynotsorry.” Someone else agreed that Cannon was wrong, because when it comes to co-parenting and making decisions for children, “Both parents always needs to be on board.”

Carey and Cannon were married for eight years before deciding to call it quits. Following her divorce from the “Drum Line” actor, Carey was engaged to James Packer for less than a year in 2016. Cannon, on the other hand, has not been engaged but has two children with model Brittany Bell, two with Abby De La Rosa, and one with model Alyssa Scott.
