Chloe Bailey had many convinced that her singing group ChloexHalle made up of her and her sister Halle Bailey may be breaking up on Wednesday, Aug. 24, after announcing she would be performing solo at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The duo, who initially began singing online on YouTube in 2011, didn’t get their start in the music industry until 2015, a year after Beyoncé shared their rendition of her chart-topping single “Pretty Hurts.” Since being signed to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment company ChloeXHalle has released an EP and three albums, which included 2020’s “Ungodly Hour.”
Chloe shared that she would be debuting her long-awaited single “Mercy” in the initial Instagram post that included a photo of her in the award show’s banner. The 23-year-old wrote, “I’m so so so excited thank you @MTV …told y’all it’s coming 👀👀👀.”
Immediately following her announcement, Halle reposted the news on her respective Instagram account by simply reacting with emojis, which included three wide-eyed expressions and sparkling hearts. The “Mercy” vocalist thanked her sister for showing her support by saying, “love you Halle.”
As news about Chloe’s solo performance began circulating on social media, a few wondered if the singing group would be splitting up, while others suggested the girls have the right to take on solo projects without the world making assumptions. A couple people made their point while bringing up Halle’s lead role in the live action “The Little Mermaid.”
“Why she leave her sister like that 😂.”
“What about Halle tho.”
“Why they gotta split 😢.”
“Love this because next year Halle will be all over the place next year with The Little Mermaid.”
“Chloe having her moment with project singing and Halle about to blow up with the little mermaid with acting and singing. They still together but they not gonna stop each other’s bag. It’s like y’all want them to break up…”
“Here y’all go being weird. Just cause they’re doing projects alone means they’re going to disband… they legit recorded their new stuff together as well.”
Despite social media users voicing their opinions on Chloe and Halle’s solo endeavors, there has been no official announcement of the group breaking up.
Chloe’s solo performance at the MTV VMAs is scheduled to be broadcast on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m.
