Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon‘s daughter Monroe Cannon is ready to rip the runway!
The 10-year-old daughter of the “Always Be My Baby” singer and the “Wild N’ Out” host made her modeling debut in children’s clothing brand OshKosh B’gosh’s back-to-school campaign titled “Today is Someday.”
Monroe stars as a 10-year-old version of her mother in one of three vignettes, which celebrates the confidence and determination of four notable trailblazers, including Outkast and Muhammad Ali, and envisions them as children. In her 30-second video, Monroe pays tribute to Carey’s career achievements and inspirational songwriting abilities that have contributed to her worldwide musical success.
“Someday, it’s going to be different. The melodies that live in my head, someday they’ll live at the top of the charts,” Monroe determinedly recites in the clip. “The songs in my heart will touch millions of hearts. Artist of the year. Artist of the decade. Artist of the millennium. But the meaning is in inspiring generations of little girls to hit their high note. How’s that for a daydream?”
Carey was not only on board with her daughter’s participation, but was hands-on as well, helping to style Monroe’s black tee and overalls look, which pays homage to the OshKosh jeans the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer wore in the music video for her single “Someday.”
“As a little girl, I was determined to realize my dreams. Now as a mother, it brings me so much joy to see my children visualize and develop the dreams they hold in their own hearts,” Carey said of the project. “We did the campaign because we love the message of empowering kids to dream boldly and blaze their own path.”
According to a press release from the clothing brand, the company’s goal for the campaign is to highlight “both timeless and trend-forward styles alongside a bold new brand identity.”
Carey and her ex-husband Nick Cannon are also parents to Monroe’s twin brother, Morrocan. At the time of this article’s writing, Nick has not shared reactions to Monroe’s modeling achievement, but it could be that he’s had his hands a little full with the twins’ new infant siblings.
