Douglas was a Chicago native who attended Illinois State University and received a bachelor of arts degree. She later attended Manhattan School of Music and achieved a master’s degree in music. In her earlier years of acting, she played in films like “Tap” alongside Sammy Davis Jr. and Gregory Hines. She was also known for her role in the 1994 film “The Inkwell,” as the character who played actor Larenz Tate’s mother.

One of her most recent appearances was in the gut-wrenching drama series “When They See Us,” in which she played Grace Cuffee, the mother of one of the Exonerated Five, Kevin Richardson. But Douglas wasn’t just an actor, she was an all-around triple threat. She could dance, which fans saw in the 1989 musical “Tap,” and she was a vocalist.

Douglas leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Roy Jonathan Cobb, and their daughter, Jordan Cobb.
