Blue Ivy Carter stopped fans in their tracks on Feb. 17, after the 9-year-old was featured alongside her superstar mom Beyoncé in her mom’s ICY PARK commercial. The ICY PARK collection is the third adidas x IVY PARK collection, and is scheduled to launch online on Feb. 19, followed by in-store the next day.
In the clip, Blue Ivy shows off her fierce personality as she models a monochromatic ensemble — consisting of a brown jacket, leather pants, fanny pack, face mask and sneakers — while dancing along to Beyoncé’s “MOOD 4 EVA” featuring Jay Z, Childish Gambino and Oumou Sangaré. As the video transitions, Beyoncé’s oldest child is standing beside her while sporting a graphic print puffer jacket and matching pants.
Following the commercial’s initial release, Blue Ivy’s grandmother Tina Knowles-Lawson gushed over the 9-year-old while informing followers that Blue Ivy spontaneously joined the shoot while hanging around the set.
She wrote, “My Beautiful grandbaby Blue Ivy looking like a little super model in her Ivy Park. Swing your hair Blue!!!!! She inserted herself into this shoot. No, she was not supposed to be in it! She was just hanging out and got dressed, and I guess she said “I’m not gonna tell you what I could do, I’m gonna show you” I love that aggressive spirit, My Blue Blue!!!! ❤️.”
Many fans claimed Blue Ivy dominated the shoot and outdid the Ivy Park designer.
“The next Beyoncé, we love to see it.”
“Blue is going to always deliver 😍😍😍.”
“Look at Blue with her employees.”
“She ate Beyoncé up..”
“This is Blue campaign now😩😩😍😍.”
As many raved over Blue Ivy’s impeccable talents, others defended her over the negative “hair” remarks made in the past. One wrote how times have changed since then:, “I remember when yall used to pick at her hair….now her hair longer than most of yalls. See how the tables turn LMAO.”
Another replied, “Not yall all in the comments saying her hair looks so beautiful but was bullying her when she was a baby…”
An Instagram user referenced Knowles-Lawson’s post by saying, “Ms Tina said I remember ya’ll talking sideways bout my grandbaby hair, what ya’ll saying now 🤫.”
In 2014, Blue Ivy’s natural hair made headlines after a BET producer was suspended for a tasteless skit that threw jabs at the then toddler’s hair, looking apparently “ungroomed” when she went on stage with her mother following an awards show. The skit claimed that Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z’s busy schedule kept them from “combing” Blue Ivy’s hair. Following the backlash, the network later issued an apology.
