Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade‘s daughter Kaavia James didn’t get her nickname “Shady Baby” for nothing. From her sharp side-eyes and hilarious reactions, Kaavia proves to the world exactly how she got the title of the internet’s shadiest little toddler.
On Tuesday, Jan. 26, Gabrielle fell victim to one of Kaavia’s sly antics when she attempted to do the cuddle challenge with the precious little 2-year-old. As rules go, the cuddle challenge is an adorable social media trend where parents randomly place their head on their child’s lap while they’re watching their favorite television show. The goal is to see what the child’s reaction will be.
In most cases, kids usually caress their parent’s heads or deliver a sweet kiss. Needless to say, when the “Bring It On” star tried to wrap her arms around Kaavia in a clip uploaded to Kaavia’s Instagram page, Kaavia quickly slid right away after handing a firm “no” to her mother. “Old girl tried that #CuddleChallenge mess on me and well, it didn’t work out so well for her,” the caption read. She added, “#ShadyBaby 😂😂😂👶🏾👶🏾👶🏾 #SheDontKnowMeLikeThat.”
The video was viewed over 300,000 times in under an hour. The post garnered even more side-splitting remarks from fans of the celebrity kid, including one user who wrote, “We have been waiting for this child to talk and I can confidently say this is exactly what we have been waiting for. 😂😂😂.”
Another user wrote, “She said ‘respect my agency. I didn’t consent to this cuddle’ 🤣🥴.”
Other fans pleaded with Kaavia to be kinder to her mommy, including one person who wrote, “Dang Kaav…. just give her a couple minutes.” They added, “Appease her a little. Sheesh.” But some joked that Gabrielle should’ve known better. “nah u knew good and well that baby didnt wanna be bothered 🤣🤣🤣 so preciou and shady!! 🥰🥰,” the person wrote.
“But what crazy is that from day one of photos she was shady baby….” a fifth person said. “and to see her vocalize and physically express “we ain’t that cool ” just is so authentic 🤣🤣.”
In March 2019, Gabrielle and Dwyane decided to expand Kaavia’s brand when they filed trademark applications for “Kaavia James” as well as “Shady Baby.” At the time, the couple said they wanted to launch jewelry, clothing, hair care and baby products under their baby’s name.
