Veteran comedian Sinbad is recovering after suffering from a recent stroke, his family told Variety in a statement on Monday, Nov. 16.
“It is out of sincere love that we share Sinbad, our beloved husband and father, is recovering from a recent stroke,” the statement read. It continued, “Sinbad is a light source of love and joy for many generations. While he is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon. Our family thanks you in advance for your love and support and ask for continued prayers for his healing. We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time.’ Thank you.”
The statement was posted to the “Jingle All The Way” star’s Twitter page, where the actor’s supporters left their well-wishes and words of encouragement for a speedy recovery.
One Twitter user wrote, “Love and prayers for a speedy recovery to you friend!” They added, “Thank you for always being a beacon of goodness, bringing the relief of laughter to this world and always always being so kind to me.”
Another person commented, “My sincere and heartfelt prayers go up to this amazing man .. and his family You have brought me Joy and laughter me throughout my life, especially in times when there wasn’t a damn thing funny. I love you my brother. Fight SINBAD Fight … I’m here with you.”
A third person wrote, “Omg! I’m Sending you Soo Much Love and The Very Highest Prayer’s!!! Get Better Soon and We Love You You!!. Thankyou!! For Soo Many Laughs! while Growing up as A Kid,and Looking at your Movies with Family!!.”
“Sending lots of light, positive thoughts, and prayers to you and your family from my entire family. Please let me know if you need ANYTHING my friend! You are so very much on my mind right now and I wish you a speedy recovery!” a fourth person wrote.
The 64 year old, whose real name is David Adkins, found success after starring in several HBO comedy specials in the early 1990s. The actor became a very familiar face after starring in the FOX sitcom, “The Sinbad Show,” and for his role as Coach Walter Oakes on “A Different World.”
Most recently, the comedian had a leading role on the Fox series “Rel.” The show aired for one season from 2018 to 2019.
