50 Cent dragged the Television Academy after learning that the crime drama television series “Power” was not nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. Taking to Instagram with a photo of what seemed to be the back side of a sculpture, the series’ executive producer expressed his frustration about the Emmy snub in his caption.
“Ok here it is Emmy’s, My Black a-s for your consideration to kiss🖕F-ck your organization I only care about NAACP awards.🤨,” he wrote on Wednesday, Aug. 5. The news comes three months after the 45-year-old rapper shared an article on Instagram that revealed “Power” received a nomination for the American accolade. At the time, the official nominee’s list was not yet revealed, which means the article was inaccurate.
“Power” has never received a nomination and 50 Cent explained in the past that he believed race played a factor in the Emmy snub. During a panel discussion at the Television Critics Association Press Tour last year, the G-Unit mogul revealed that he believed that the show did not receive a nomination at the 71st Emmy Awards because of the color of his skin. “I like to say it’s racial, he said. “That’s the easy way to get out of things. People who are running and connected to these ceremonies are not necessarily cool people,” he shared.
Courtney Kemp, the show creator, also gave her reason behind the 2019 Emmy snub and explained that the Starz drama was ahead of its time. “The first couple of years, it was disappointing because I thought we were doing something new and fresh and I was hoping that the Emmy voters would take notice and then they didn’t,” she said. “And [you] just accept it and move on. But we’ve been winning [NAACP] Image Awards now for quite some time, so it feels as if our core audience does love and respect the show,” she added.
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
