Jada Pinkett Smith confirmed she had a relationship with singer-songwriter August Alsina while she and her husband Will Smith were in the midst of a separation.
The 48-year-old actress brought herself to the “Red Table” on the Friday, July 10, episode of “Red Table Talk” where she had an open and honest conversation with Will about her romance with the 27-year-old artist.
Jada shared that she came to the “Red Table” to clear the air, revealing that someone made a statement on her behalf that did not come from her. Will also explained that the pair never publicly said anything about the allegations and revealed that any media outlets that claimed otherwise were not telling the truth.
The “Set It Off” actress expressed that she felt the situation was “private” before saying, “This is a very personal journey that became very public for whatever reason.” Jada then went on to explain how she formed a bond with August.
“I guess about four and a half years ago … [I] started a friendship with August and we actually became really, really good friends,” she continued at the 2:15 mark. “And it all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state.” The mother of two and Will agreed that August was “really sick” at the time.
“The outpouring for him from our family was initially about his health,” Will chimed in. Jada added: “We found all those different resources to help pull him through and from there you and I were going through a very difficult time.” Will replied, “Yeah. I was done with your a-s. I was done with you.”
“We basically … we broke up,” Jada said. Will clarified, “We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time.” But Jada revealed that their decision to split up was actually permanent. “And then what did you do, Jada?” Will asked at the 3:41 mark.
“From there as time went on I got into a different kind of entanglement with August. And one thing I wanna get clear about … and clean up one of the things that was kind of swirling around in the press about you giving permission. Which is … the only person that can give permission in that particular circumstance is myself,” she said.
Jada explained that she could see how August thought he got Will’s permission about their relationship because Will and Jada were broken up, trying to convey the idea that August did not want to be a homewrecker. When Will asked Jada to clarify what she meant by “entanglement,” she replied: “Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely.”
Jada insinuated that August cut off their communication when he realized that Jada and Will were fixing their marriage and shared that she hasn’t talked to him since. Will and Jada repaired their marriage and have “gotten to that new place of unconditional love.” Many fans expressed that they believed August and Jada had a relationship prior to Jada addressing the speculation on her show. “Everyone knew he wasn’t lying🤷🏽♀️,” someone said.
Back in June, August claimed he had a relationship with Jada and said that Will gave him his blessing.
