‘Love Y’all Together’: Yandy Smith’s Couple Pic with Mendeecees Leaves Fans Swollen with Black Pride

The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, and many more have sparked many celebrities to use their platforms to elevate their voices on social issues, and “Love & Hip Hop New York” reality couple Yandy Smith-Harris and Mendeecees Harris are no exception.

The pro-Black couple let it be known on July Fourth that they were not celebrating the holiday but instead were expressing how proud they are to be Black.

“What Amirikkka fears most @mendeecees …Yup we blackity black black On this Not my Independence Day!” Yandy captioned the photo.

Mendeecees wore a white “Retired Hot Boy” T-shirt, red hat, ripped jeans, and a gold watch. Smith, who has been advocating for justice for Black lives, rocked the same theme on her T-shirt — “Retired Hot Girl” — distressed jeans, and gold jewelry.

Fans gushed over the married couple’s matching attire and, of course, Smith’s caption.

“Sis holding a Black Man down!!!! She fight for us!!! Better put some respect on her name period !!!!”

“Y’all been together for so long that y’all looking alike @YandySmith ✊🏾.”

“I love you two together. Stay together and love each other!”

“So happy that he’s home now. Love yall ❤️.”

“Such a beautiful couple 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, Black Love ❤️.”

Along with compliments and praise for being a happy Black couple, one fan suggested that the pair make one more child together.

“One more baby 💜💜💜. Y’all make cute kids.”

Yandy’s social media following already beat the fan to the punch, for many are speculating that the 38-year-old could be expecting after she graced Instagram timelines with a short red dress with peplum sleeves, and black heels on June 26.

“You got this sis Keep killing it and shocking the world. Bro, they might not believe you now, but trust YOU GONNA MAKE them believe. Stay 10 toes down and keep pushing. You’re stronger than they think. 💕,” a fan replied.

Fans believed that the YELLE Skin Care owner was touching a pregnant belly, but neither she nor her husband has announced that they’re expecting another child together.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
