‘Sis Always Been Swaggy’: Fans Rave Over Marlo Hampton’s Throwback Fashion Pic

If you thought Marlo Hampton became a style icon just from being on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” it’s time to think again. Hampton, a friend of the show, shocked some fans on Thursday, May 28, when she posted a throwback photo on Instagram that showed her modeling an elaborate outfit in the late 1980s.

Standing in front of a blue backdrop that seemingly was supposed to evoke a beach, Hampton put her hands on her hips to strike her pose. The fashion guru wore a white patterned floor-length dress that contained a halter top neckline and completed her look with a matching scarf and a pair of sunglasses. Her hair, which was parted down the middle, was tucked behind her ears and extended past her shoulders. Abiding by the fashion trends of that time, Hampton outlined her lips with dark lip liner and filled the center with lip gloss.

She appeared to be having a girls night with her friends and hinted in her caption that they were not new to demolishing the fashion game. “We been shootin’ in the gym since 89’ #hometeam #tbt,” she wrote. With over 7,000 likes and some 100 comments, it’s safe to say that people loved Hampton’s trendy style.

“Sis always been swaggy πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ˜.”

Hampton owned a high-end fashion boutique prior to getting her start in reality television, so her love of trends seems to stem from her style background. Some fans have openly admitted that they tune in to the show just to check out Hampton’s looks. During season 12, the cast went on a trip to Greece. The 44-year-old star packed at least three pieces of Louis Vuitton luggage and several other suitcases for her short getaway.

Independent journalism still matters.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
