The “Snakegate” incident was one of the most talked about scandals during season 12 of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Yovanna Momplaisir, a friend of Nene Leakes, was considered to be a “snake” for secretly recording Cynthia Bailey gossiping about Leakes.
Momplaisir cleared her name during part 3 of the “RHOA” reunion, claiming that the OG housewife told her to secretly record the ladies of the hit reality show. “Um … in the beginning I thought that I was just … you know … supporting a friend. She was the one that was showing me the most love, she had my back, and so she saw that I was starting hanging out with the ladies. I started establishing genuine friendships. … Um, that she wasn’t in a position anymore to do, and she saw it as an opportunity for me to find out if anybody was talking sh-t about her,” Momplaisir said during the reunion.
“So at that time, I was like, OK, you know, that’s innocent enough. … Um, if you wanna find out if people are talking sh-t, I’m hap — I’m happy to tell you,” she added. Tanya Sam asked, “So you’re a snitch?” Momplaisir responded, “Huh?” Sam said, “So basically you were a snitch?” Momplaisir argued, “Well, I mean, if she’s my good friend … so if somebody was talking smack — I mean anybody would do that. But this is where things changed.”
Andy Cohen, the reunion host, asked Momplaisir if Leakes told her to record conversations. “Absolutely,” she concluded. A slew of fans didn’t seem to like that Momplaisir was blaming Leakes for the “snakegate scandal.”
“She threw nene under the bus to try and secure a spot on next season with the girls🥴.”
“She is lying I won’t be watching.”
“Nene ain’t tell you to record it!!!! You probably asked Nene if you should and she just ain’t say no. So you took that as a yes, Nene told me to record the conversation 🤦🏽♀️😂.”
“She is tryin too hard!!!”
“Girl story done changed 20 times 😩😩.”
“Straight Fraud! Nene don’t need nobody to tell her something she already knows! 🎯🎯.”
“She’ll never get a peach or be on the show forreal; they do anything for clout.”
Toward the end of April, the 52-year-old Leakes dropped text message evidence on social media from her former friend. In the receipts, Momplaisir allegedly claimed to have an audio recording of Bailey talking badly about Leakes. The Swagg boutique owner denied the claim that she told Momplaisir to record Bailey.
Part 3 of the Bravo special aired on Sunday, May 24, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
