‘It’s Something Deeper’: Megan Thee Stallion Says Men Are Intimidated by Her Sexual Lyrics, Which Causes a Double Standard

Megan Thee Stallion said there’s a double standard that exists between male and female rappers when it comes to lyrical content.

The 25-year-old shared that opinion during a recent interview with Marie Claire and said male hip-hop artists can say whatever controversial lyrics they like, while women get criticized for doing the same. She also said that male rappers can be subpar and still be called skilled.

“A man can be as mediocre as he wants to be but still be praised,” said Megan. “A man can talk about how he’s about to do all of these drugs and then come and shoot your house up. But as soon as I say something about my vagina, it’s the end of the world?”

Plus, according to Megan, a lot of men aren’t comfortable hearing lyrics that don’t put them on the receiving end of a particular sex act.

“What are you really mad about?” she asked. “You cannot be mad about me rapping about sex. That’s not what you’re mad about.”

“It’s something deeper,” added Megan. “Not only am I rapping about sex, I’m rapping about you making me feel good. I’m not rapping about licking on you. No, you’re going to do what I told you to do, and I feel like sometimes that can be a little intimidating. … Sometimes it’s overwhelming to some men. They can’t handle it, they get a little shook, they get a little scared. But I’m not going nowhere, so get used to it.”

As Megan sees it, if the men don’t get used to her sexual speak, she’ll be just fine and so will other women who deliver similar lyrics.

“I know that women are powerful. I know that we are out here birthing people,” she explained. “I know that we are out here running s–t, so I can’t even be mad at you for thinking that we should be held to a high standard. We’re the ultimate beings. We are the superior beings.”

People debated about what Megan said after the interview was published.

“She ain’t wrong tho,” one person wrote.

“Nah sis, it’s the women that hate on you. The men love to hear it!” another person followed.

Megan’s Marie Claire interview comes shortly after she spoke with Genius about the backlash she receives for twerking, a dance the rapper is known for.

“I don’t know when it happened, that sometimes people get offended by twerking,” she said last month. “But that s–t is crazy. Like, I love to throw my ass. I love to shake my ass. That’s one of my favorite things to do, and I be seeing motherf——s be like, ‘All you do is shake your ass.’ I be like, ‘Damn, actually, I go to school and I rap and sometimes I be cooking.’”

“‘I’m a dog mom,’” Megan continued. “‘I’m an awesome friend. It’s not all I be doing. It’s just that maybe when you logging in, you came to see me twerk. ‘Cause you ain’t see that freestyle I just dropped? I can rap and twerk.’”
