‘F–k a Show.’: ‘Power’ Star Michael Rainey Jr. Blasts Tommie Lee for Making a Joke About Pop Smoke’s Murder

Michael Rainey Jr. didn’t like a comment that Tommie Lee made when he posted his thoughts on the murder of Pop Smoke. The Brooklyn rapper was shot and killed on Wednesday morning in Hollywood, California, and the suspects are still at large.

“People really killing people like they gain something from it,” wrote Rainey Jr. on Instagram Story, Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Lee then brought up Rainey Jr.’s character on the show “Power,” Tariq St. Patrick, who killed his father James “Ghost” St. Patrick, played by Omari Hardwick.

“Says the n—a who shot his father that’s crazy don’t piss me off Tariq,” wrote Lee.

“This sh– not even funny,” Rainey Jr. wrote back. “I’m talking bout real life sh–. F–k a show.”

People left comments on Instagram about the exchange, and many agreed with Rainey Jr. that Lee’s comment was totally inappropriate.

“I’m with him. Y’all take that tv sh– too far for some jokes,” one person wrote.

“Yeah he’s not wrong. She was insensitive, even if unintentional,” wrote another.

“It wasn’t the time for a joke 😒,” a third comment read.

“While another person said that “Tommie needs to grow up 🤮.”

As for Pop Smoke’s murder, police believe it was a targeted hit, according to TMZ. The site says people who have viewed the house’s surveillance footage witnessed four men approach the home at 4:30 a.m. and move toward the back.

One of the men stayed at the back of the house and entered through a back door, while the other three walked to the front.

After some time passed, the man who entered through the back door left through the front door with nothing in his hand, which is why police believe Pop Smoke’s killing wasn’t attached to a robbery.

The rapper was 20 years old when he was murdered. He’d just released his mixtape “Meet the Woo 2” on Feb. 7 of this year. The project landed in the No. 7 spot on the Billboard 200 charts.

Police continue to investigate his murder.
