Tommy Davidson has given folks a lot to talk about in his new memoir “Living in Color.”
In one part, he said that Jamie Foxx was “mercilessly mean” to him on the set of their show “In Living Color.” Plus, they almost came to blows on the set of their 1997 film “Booty Call.” It happened, Davidson recalls, after Foxx came after Davidson during a game of one-on-one basketball.
But that wasn’t the only fight that Davidson almost got into on a film set because he nearly fought with Will Smith as well.
In his memoir, Davidson said the whole thing started on the set of the 1998 film “Woo,” which also starred Jada Pinkett Smith.
At one point, the “In Living Color” alum told Jada that he wasn’t happy with the original ending and neither were the producers. So instead, he thought he and the actress should dance during the final credits.
Davidson also told the producers that he had an idea to kiss Jada, but it was something he never told her.
“I didn’t know this: You have to rehearse a kiss,” wrote Davidson. “You can’t just spring it on your costar … And I didn’t think it was all that big of a deal.”
But the kiss apparently was a big deal to Jada because she flinched when Davidson went in for it.
Then later Will, who was engaged to the “A Different World” actress at the time and was on-set, approached Davidson in his trailer and things got heated quickly.
“I didn’t appreciate that,” he said Will told him.
“Will went all gangsta on me, saying what I did was not cool,” added the “Strictly Business” actor. “There was a moment there when we might have come to blows. My reactive fight-or-flight instinct was triggered and I could have exploded.”
But Jada also went into the trailer with her then fiancé and was able to quell things.
A lot of people discussed what Davidson revealed afterwards, and many said it was his fault that he and Will almost came to blows.
“Well maybe y’all should’ve discussed the scene first 🙄,” one person stated.
“Don’t blame Will at all,” wrote someone else. “You didn’t tell Jada your plans just went with an ambush not cool.”
“Don’t let that Fresh Prince sh– fool you Lol,” another person stated. “Y’all betta quit playing w/ Will. Philly dudes are wired differently bro.”
