‘The GOAT’: LeBron James Shares Heartfelt Text From Mom After Making History With Triple-Double Record

LeBron James seems to be on a tear in his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers, who are currently in first place in the NBA Western Conference with a record of 12-2.

On Tuesday, James made history against the Oklahoma City Thunder by being the first player in league history to get a triple-double against every single team in the NBA.

He did it by getting 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, which helped beat the Thunder 112-107.

After the game, the 34-year-old said he wasn’t even aware that he broke the record.

“I had no idea,” James told ESPN. “Coach [Frank] Vogel came in here and said congratulations. I was like, I thought he was joking about my seven turnovers, because I’ve been taking care of the ball so much. He said ‘First player in NBA history to have a triple-double versus 30 teams, every team.’ So I was like, ‘OK. That’s pretty cool.’”

“I really don’t know what to really think about it,” he added. “It’s a pretty cool stat to know. I’m glad it happened in a win.”

Then Wednesday, on Instagram, James shared a congratulatory message from his mother Gloria James, who told him to celebrate his huge accomplishment.

“Congratulations kid! on being the 1st player in the league history to score a triple double against all the teams in the league!!!” she wrote. “You are the GOAT. You should celebrate tonight. Love you.”

Gloria gave birth to James at just 16 years old, and after her own mother died when she was 19 she raised the hoops star all by herself.

James’ father, Anthony McClelland, was never in his life and reportedly turned to a life of crime. In a 2014 interview with GQ, the now-four-time NBA MVP said his father not being in his life is what fueled his ambitions and helped him accomplish his goals.

And as for his mother’s congratulatory message, the Ohio native also shared his response.

“Aww mama!!! Thank you so much!!!” his message read. “You’re the GOAT. In all actuality for raising me the way you did and everything you did for me. Like 2pac said ‘Against All Odds.’ Love you too!”

And in the caption of his post, James wrote “Love you Mama!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Words can’t express how much I do. You’re simply INCREDIBLE.”

The exchange between mother and son definitely touched a lot of people, and they let it be known under James’ post.

“How amazing, how the love of a Mom can guide us to reach our optimum, whichever that may be.
❤️,” someone wrote.

“Pulling at my heart strings ❤️❤️❤️,” wrote another fan.
