Idris Elba To Star in All-Black Western on Netflix Produced By Jay-Z

It’s been announced that Idris Elba was cast in an all-Black Western for Netflix called “The Harder They Fall,” which will be produced by Jay-Z.

The British musician Jeymes Samuel, who also goes by The Bullitts, will make his directorial debut for the film. And other stars in it include Jonathan Majors, who played in movies like “White Boy Rick,” “Captive State,” and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.”

In the Western, Majors will play the part of outlaw Nat Love, who learns the man who killed his parents 20 years ago — played by Elba — is being let out of prison. So he reconnects with his gang to locate Elba’s character and dole out a little vengeance.

Samuel, who previously worked with Jay-Z on the soundtrack for “The Great Gatsby” film, will wear a producer hat for the Netflix release as well.

Elba hasn’t posted anything about “The Harder They Fall” yet, but he did share the new trailer for “Cats,” where he plays Macavity the Mystery Cat. The film, based on the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, also stars Jennifer Hudson and Jason Derulo. And it’s slated to hit theaters on December 20 of this year.

Other upcoming projects for Elba include “The Suicide Squad,” which he joined after Will Smith, who played in the original 2016 version, said he wouldn’t be in it.

Elba was also cast in the film “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” described as a love story. And he’ll be in the movie “Concrete Cowboys” as well, alongside “Stranger Things” actor Caleb McLaughlin.

As of now, a release date for “The Harder They Fall” hasn’t been announced.
