Viola Davis will portray Michelle Obama in an upcoming anthology series on Showtime titled “First Ladies.” And it will tell the story of three women who were married to former presidents.
Davis will also executive produce the project through JuVee Productions, the company she owns with her husband Julius Tennon,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The couple signed a deal with Lionsgate for “First Ladies,” which will also tell the story of Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt. Each release will follow the personal and political lives of the women.
JuVee Productions also partnered with Amazon in 2018 and has already begun working on a television series called “Fast Color,” based on the 2018 science fiction film of the same name.
Davis and Tennon’s company is producing a drama for Amazon as well, titled “Wild Seed,” plus, a stage and film adaptation of “The Asphalt Kiss,” the 1960 play from Nelson Rodrigues.
Davis posted news about landing the Obama role Tuesday on Instagram and expressed her pride about producing “First Ladies.”
“Proud to spotlight these brave, extraordinary women! #FirstLadies,” she wrote.
Afterward, a lot of people stated how excited they are about Davis’ Showtime role and said one of their favorite people is now playing another personal favorite.

Davis is also set to play Annalise Keating in the final season of ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder,” which she also mentioned in an Instagram post.
“My final curtain call 😥 #HTGAWM,” she wrote on Tuesday.
