The fact that Rep. Elijah Cummings’ home was burglarized had no apparent impact on President Donald Trump, as he did not let up on his attacks against the Maryland representative.

Baltimore Police are investigating a burglary that took place in Cummings’ home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

By Friday, police had released a redacted police report about Cummings’ home burglary. In it, a woman, who is believed to be the state rep’s wife, said a man tried to come inside the apartment at around 3:40 a.m Saturday. She said her husband “confronted the suspect and yelled” when a man opened another door leading to a hallway toward the front door of the couple’s residence. The woman came downstairs and saw a man, whom she took pictures of as he closed the door, fleeing on his bike, the Washington Post reported. The police report stated nothing had been reported stolen.

Upon news of the burglary emerging on Aug. 2, Trump reacted by tweeting, “Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!”

Speaking to White House reporters Friday, the president said it “was really just a repeat of what I heard over the news. That was really not meant as a wise-guy tweet.”

The burglary occurred hours before Trump made what many have called racist tweets about Cummings and his district, which includes Baltimore.

Of Cummings, Trump tweeted that he “has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA……”

The president also said, “If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

Additionally, Trump described the district as a “rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”

Meanwhile, Cummings himself has issued a statement on the incident that occurred at his home.

“An individual attempted to gain entry into my residence at approximately 3:40 AM on Saturday, July 27,” read the statement. “I was notified of the intrusion by my security system, and I scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house. I thank the Baltimore Police Department for their response and ask that all further inquiries be directed to them.”

Cummings has not responded to Trump’s tweet.
