Nene Leakes is taking aim at a report that claimed she went off after learning her onetime friend Cynthia Bailey got engaged to sportscaster Mike Hill.
After Hill popped the question to Bailey at the grand opening of The Bailey Wine Cellar over the weekend, Radar Online reported July 30 that Leakes was “livid” upon finding out that her friend Marlo Hampton witnessed the engagement. Leakes had skipped the gathering, which was filmed for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
“NeNe was pissed with Marlo for filming with Cynthia and the rest of the group,” a source told the gossip outlet. “Marlo told her she needs to let it go and apologize to everyone.”
The source added that the incident was “minor” and Leakes is “over it now.” They also said the O.G. housewife had “no regrets” about missing the “surprise” engagement.
Having caught wind of the report, Leakes took to Instagram Tuesday to dismiss the claims. She also noted she sent her former pal a “beautiful gift and card” the night Hill put a ring on Bailey, whom Leakes added she “couldn’t be happier” for.
“Number 1, WHY would i explode? WHY? Chile I don’t want high blood pressure 🤣 Number 2, i sent @cynthiabailey10 the nite of her engagement a beautiful gift and card,” she said. “I couldn’t be happier for her finding love again. Number 3 @radaronline and all the others who continue to pick this up, post, write trying to diminish/damage my character should try using their time in a more productive way like donating to @americancancersociety The Lies The Lies The Lies in @kandi voice 😝”
Responding to a commenter who said Leakes “doesn’t even like Cynthia,” Leakes replied, “Your right I love Cynthia like a sister!”
But fans who saw Leakes’ post felt it was insincere.
“Nene has two faces….I’m not buying this face.”
“Weren’t they just ‘coworkers?’”
“Wow! Cynthia was weak a couple months ago. Now she loves her like a sister. I’m confused 🤔”
“You love her like a sister but you treated her like sh–. This after you realized she was no longer going to be kissing your ass.”
“Nene trying to go to the wedding. Lmao… yall be nice.”
However, Bailey stepped in and thanked Leakes for her generosity.
Leakes famously took issue with Bailey after she failed to give her a heads-up that Kenya Moore may show up to the model’s Seagram’s Escapes beverage launch.
“You gon’ have to watch the finale to see what it is that she does,” Leakes said of Bailey’s actions at the party, which was covered in the season 11 finale. “Cynthia’s done a lot of stuff, in my opinion, on the down low [that] is very sneaky and underhanded. I’m just telling you the truth.”
Then, after the filming of the “RHOA” reunion in March, Leakes unfollowed Bailey and nearly every other co-star. Allegedly, the star has refused to film with Bailey and many other co-stars, too.
