R&B singer August Alsina sent shockwaves through social media after being hospitalized for not being able to walk. The 26-year-old has been battling liver disease and first dished on his health in 2017.
“I have a liver disease where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself,” he said. “The reality of it is, I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f–king cancer patient, ’cause I’m not,” he added.
Alsina posted a video from his official Instagram page @AugustAlsina from his hospital bed. In the video, Alsina shares a message about what happened with his inability to walk. “I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk. I couldn’t feel my legs. My doctor ended up admitting me into the hospital,” he said while lying in the bed with soulful music playing in the background.
“They’re doing a bunch of tests. He said I have some nerve damage going on throughout my whole body that I have to go into a recovery process for. It’s like my immune system just went on vacation,” he added.
Alsina said he was waiting for his immune system to come back from vacation, so they can “get it together and make it do what it do.” While his condition is serious, Alsina was able to keep his spirits up by keeping a smile on his face and flipping his phone camera to his walker, which he labeled his new car.

Alsina had to skip his Essence Festival gig because of his condition. He promised to make it up to fans and asked them to continue to keep the New Orleans native in their thoughts and prayers.
With over a million views, fans of the singer took to his comments to show him love at this troubling moment in his life.

Before his hospitalization, Alsina had been caring for his three nieces following the death of his sister and their father.
