“Growing Up Hip Hop” star Angela Simmons is receiving quite a bit of backlash for a recent patriotic post of hers.
The television personality posted several photos of herself this week proudly commemorating Independence day in her American flag attire. She was draped in red, white, blue from head to toe with an USA-inspired shirt on as she held a large collection of “USA” balloons.
“Happy 4th 💥 Happy to be here to see another day,” Simmons wrote via Instagram. ” Thankful for all of those who do fight for the world to be a better place ♥️.”
Her post, however, ruffled some feathers.
“Scrolls back to see if you wore any red, black and green on juneteenth. Celebrating this non holiday is like slapping the ancestors all in the face 🙄 .”
“🤦🏾♀️ very pretty but kinda upsetting 🤷🏽♀️ girl you fake woke #doyouboo.”
“Ain’t nothing “Happy” about it. Take them colors off miss me with ur fake patriotism.”
One fan commented, “Your fine as hell but definitely not woke 🤦🏽♂️” to which Simmons clapped back, “Nah I’m woke. I can read. I don’t have to instagram everything I feel or stand by. Have a blessed day though.”
Several more fans felt Simmons celebrating July 4, the day in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed declaring the American colony’s freedom from Britain, was a slap in the face to Black Americans who were enslaved and not liberated on that date.
Others, however, jumped to the reality star’s defense against critics.
“People are never satisfied smh. Angela live your life sis♥️ You can be thankful for some of the freedoms you have today in this country that our ancestors didn’t have ❤💙.”
“Omg y’all big mad in these comments but I bet half if not all of y’all doing something. Linking with family for food n drinks stop whining 🙄.”
In recent news, it seems Simmons has been in her bag and recently secured a spot on “GUHH’s” New York spinoff that is slated to air this summer. She’ll be joined by big brother Jo Jo Simmons, “GUHHATL” cast mate Lil Mama, rapper Ja Rule and his children, “Murder Inc” magnate Irv Gotti, and a few others.
