Poor Little Rich Girl: Angela Simmons, Reminded by Fans She Was Born to Privilege, Says Her Struggle Is Real

Angela Simmons, the daughter of DJ Rev Run (estimated net worth $70 million) and niece of Russell Simmons (estimated net worth $340 million), is hitting back at fans who seemingly undermined her hard work and success in a recent post.

Simmons, who has ostensibly tried to step out of her father and uncle’s shadows, felt slighted when folks brought up her apparent wealthy upbringing. On Thursday, she shared an encouraging post that urged fans to continue on their path of success despite the obstacles they may face.

“I wholeheartedly believe no matter what cards I’m dealt, I’m going to be successful,” the Instagram post read. “That’s just how my faith is set up. That’s just how I was built.”

Simmons then said she planned to continue striving for success despite how many times she failed.

“I don’t care how many times I fail . I will keep going 💪🏽,” Simmons wrote.

Fans, however, weren’t buying the star’s “struggle” post and mentioned her rich family.

“Sis your whole family is rich 🙄,” one Instagram user commented. “LOL. Ang always loves talking about the struggle, so comical.”

Another added, “Easy to say when you’re born rich 🤷🏾‍♂️. You was born with a silver spoon in your mouth.”

“Yea ur dad and uncle were both millionaires before you were born so it’s kind of impossible not to succeed. Smh people with wealth 😂.”

The 31-year-old mother caught wind of the snide comments left under her post and responded back to naysayers with a video and a long and lengthy post, defending herself.

“You will never know what a person goes through to have what they have,” she wrote. “We all have our own burdens and struggles. God gives us what we each can handle.”

Simmons also noted in her video, “I posted something and the comments made me think about something. Don’t you ever for two seconds think that you know anyone’s struggle or what they go through. … So until you walk into someone else’s shoes you will never know what someone else is going through. So let’s just clear that.”

One supporter of Simmons among many, commended her for hitting back at negative Nellies.

“Well spoken,” the fan wrote. “People assume not even knowing your real struggles in real life… You’ve worked hard Angela for your success keep pushing 🙏🏽❤️.”

Simmons has definitely made a name for herself in the fashion and entertainment industry. She currently stars on We TV’s “Growing Up Hip Hop,” and she recently launched a campaign called “Pressure Makes Diamonds,” which helps encourage teens and millennials to overcome adversity in their life by building self-esteem.

She told Black Enterprise in September 2018, “The whole idea of this campaign and the mission just came from [my] life and the pressures that I’ve been through. … You can either come out as coal or come out as a diamond after you go through what you go through in life.”
