Bill Cosby has been trying to get an appeal on his sexual assault conviction ever since the judge’s decision came down in September of 2018.
Cosby was sentenced to 3 to 10 years for drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple University Andrea Constand but has maintained his innocence all along.
The prison sentence was handed down by Judge Steven O’Neill, who Cosby has been blasting in statements given to his publicist Andrew V. Wyatt. Last month, for example, the disgraced comedian accused O’Neill, who presided over both of Cosby’s sexual assault trials, of trying to “destroy any black man and or colored man in America.”
Moreover, Cosby said the Pennsylvania judge ignored a state law that requires him to give a detailed explanation on why he sentenced him to 3 to 10 years in a maximum security lockup.
But on Tuesday, May 14, O’Neill did that and issued a 143-page response that challenged Cosby’s claims about being treated unfairly and how he should be freed on bail while fighting for an appeal.
In February, the 81-year-old Cosby called himself a political prisoner when he blasted the judge and compared himself to Martin Luther King, as well as Nelson Mandela.
Now, Cosby’s wife Camille Cosby has slammed Judge O’Neill, and just like her husband said his conviction was based solely on racism.
“[Judge O’Neill] tried to turn Bill Cosby into one of the most insidious stereotypes of African American men,” she stated.
“Now, after more than 50 years of work, that humanized the dehumanized; which also challenged the perpetual architects of racist, exploitive and greedy maneuvers that have enabled them to divide and conquer, my husband has been severely redefined by Judge O’Neill, despite having zero proof,” Camille Cosby added.
Her husband also delivered a statement.
“I stand firmly with my wife on the foundation of solidarity and truth,” he said. “Camille has always been a fearless warrior against corruption and bigotry. She’s not afraid of this unethical judge, nor am I afraid of O’Neill’s grossly immoral tactics. Keep fighting, dear. I love you very, very much.”
Cosby is currently locked up at SCI Phoenix about 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia.
