When it comes to Common‘s love life, some may look at him as a stone-cold player, others the luckiest man in the world. Because he’s dated women like Taraji P. Henson, “A Different World’s” Cree Summer, Erykah Badu, Regina Hall and more recently CNN contributor Angela Rye.
But none of those relationships made it to the altar, and during a recent interview on “The Breakfast Club” the Chicago rapper explained why.
Common is currently promoting his new memoir “Let Love Have The Last Word,” and in it he admitted to being addicted to falling in love but didn’t like when things got tough.
“The pattern I found myself in — and my therapist broke it down — was the feeling of being in love and that honeymoon period. I was addicted to that feeling,” he explained. “When that feeling would go away, and the real part of relationships came, I wasn’t ready to do the work.”
“I obviously care for the person, but when things got tough and it’s time to work through stuff, I wasn’t willing to work through it, and I would make up excuses [like] ‘Aw, man, that’s interfering with my work,'” the rapper added. “It’s also a process and a journey to get to understanding how to be full in a relationship and be a full and complete person as much as possible.”
These days, Common isn’t linked to anyone seriously, but on May 5 Rye accompanied him to The Potter’s House Church in Dallas. where T.D. Jakes called him up to promote his new memoir.
Afterward, rumors surfaced that Common and the political analyst were back together but neither of them confirmed that.
