Four-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keyshia Cole had social media shook after revealing she’s multilingual.
That’s right! Cole showed off her Zulu skills Tuesday night on Twitter and even earned herself a South African name. She took to her social page and showed her followers some love, writing in Zulu, “Hi EVERYONE … Ngiyakuthanda !!! ngiyabonga ngokungilandela ❤,” which translates in English: “Hi everyone. I love you. Thank you for following me.”
Her message was enough to make her a trending topic on Twitter to say the least.
“Hawu. Bring back the real Keyshia 😂.”
“OK Keyshia I’m shook! what in the Google translate is going on 😭?”
“I’m screaming when did this happen 😍😍 she speaking in hieroglyphs and telling y’all to put some respeck on it.”
“You should just move to South Africa, Durban specifically! We are working on getting back the land and have a nice piece for you there in Umhlang.”
“😩😩 A Zulu person is behind keyshia Cole’s phone.”
When someone asked Cole if she’d been hacked, she replied, “Lol. No! I’m not hacked. 😡 Yini esihogweni okhuluma ngayo.”
Her tweet not only went viral, getting over 3k retweets and 10k likes, it also respectively earned her several new South African IDs.
“Yazin from now now on you are no longer Keyshia Cole your new name is Khanyisile ❤.”
“Kayise, is your name from now on…welcome home 😂🤣.”
“Your Zulu name is Mbalenhle.”
“I’m impressed your new name in Zulu is Kayise Cele 😩.”
In case anyone is wondering why it’s such a big deal that Cole is speaking Zulu, it’s because it’s one of South Africa’s most widely spoken languages and one of Africa’s oldest tongues. The word Zulu means “sky,” and oral history says Zulu was the name of the ancestor who founded the Zulu royal line in about 1670, according to sahistory.org.
“Surrounded by Loooooooooove❤️ Just enjoying good times and GREAT VIBES 🤰🏽,” she wrote along with a photo of her bulging baby bump.
It seems Cole is just full of surprises nowadays!
