Malinda Williams is officially engaged to Tariq M. Walker, a digital media consultant and journalist, which the actress announced in a statement. She also suggested that she and Walker are soul mates.

“Yes, we are engaged and we couldn’t be more happy about spending our lives together,” the statement read. “To be honest from the moment we realized we were made for each other, we also recognized the impact we had on one another’s desire to be better individuals, and inspired the best in each other. That is where ‘we said yes’ came in. We said yes to encouraging each other to reach higher and deeper for greater.”
This will be the “Soul Food” star’s third marriage, since she wedded Boogie Down Productions’ D-Nice in 2008 and fellow actor Mekhi Phifer in 1999, whom she has a son with.
Besides the announcement, the couple also took a photo shoot together and shared the behind-the-scenes footage on Instagram Stories. Walker wore a tan-and-black blazer for the shoot, while Williams sported a long green dress.
The pictures were shared on Wednesday, March 20, which is also National Proposal Day, and to acknowledge it the couple will release a photo tribute called “3 Icons of Love,” where they’ll dress up as real-life and fictional Black couples.
Some of the famous people they’ll celebrate include Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as Billy Dee Williams and Diana Ross from the film “Mahogany.”
The first batch of photos will be released between March 21 and March 23.
The couple also launched a new website called Thisisleaving.com that centers on their shared love of travel, and they have articles with titles like “3 Fun Daycation Ideas for Couples.” There’s also a section on food, arts and culture, as well as fashion.
Both shared the same message on Instagram about why they chose to be husband and wife in the first place.
“We Said Yes! 💍…because you don’t marry someone you can live with,” the couple wrote. “You marry someone you cannot live without. 🔥🔥”
