There’s no ill-will between Steve Harvey and pal D.L. Hughley.
On March 6, the talk and game show host took to Instagram to share a photo of the duo snapped at “Def Comedy Jam 25” in September 2017.
“Happy Birthday to my man @realdlhughley many more KING, you doing it well,” Harvey wrote in the photo’s caption.
“Much love between #Kings ❤️💯,” Hughley, now 56 years old, replied in the comments section.
The Kings of Comedy stars had previously been at odds after Harvey took a meeting with then-President-elect Donald Trump, whom the “Steve” host had previously been critical of. The 2017 meeting at Trump Tower saw the former host of NBC’s “The Apprentice” introduce Harvey to Ben Carson, who at the time was tapped as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
“It was a really cool meeting,” Harvey told reporters. “He introduced me to Ben Carson … and we’re gonna team up and see if we can bring about some positive change in the inner cities, which I felt was my only agenda, and he agreed. And he wants to do something.”
While Harvey was pumped about the discussion, his fellow comedian was not. The radio host blasted Trump for meeting with Kanye West and Harvey in an effort to, as he put it, persuade Black people to believe Trump is concerned for the community.
“It amazes me, to convince black people that Donald Trump cares about them, he takes pictures with celebrities,” Hughley said on Facebook Live at the time. “If Donald Trump cared about Black people, he wouldn’t have denigrated the president with those claims of birtherism. He wouldn’t have stoked fears and racist fears saying this man [Barack Obama] is less than or not one of us to become president. If Donald Trump cared about Black people, he wouldn’t have, in the debates, talked about bringing back stop and frisk.”
So with all Harvey’s and Hughley’s political history, the reminder of the friendly moment was something that fans eagerly celebrated.
“I’m glad y’all still cool after that Trump nonsense.”
“Glad they put their differences aside and got back to being friends.”
“It does my heart good to see you two together again.”
“Glad to see you two back together!!!!”
