Days after Toni Braxton confessed how angry she was at having to fork over spousal support to her ex-husband, comedian Niecy Nash has shared she feels the singer’s pain.
Braxton appeared on the Facebook Watch show “Red Table Talk” Monday, Nov. 26, to discuss how she managed to survive to divorcing Mint Condition singer Keri Lewis.
“Yes. I had to pay alimony. I was one of those girls,” she said of the settlement following the end of her 12-year union. “It’s me, it’s Britney [Spears], it’s Halle [Berry], Mary [J. Blige] is allegedly. I was very, very angry about that. But it was because we had an existing prenup and post-nup. I wanted to renege; I’m going to be honest.
“I thought he should say no,” she added later. “Even though if it were reversed we would expect him to make sure the lady was okay, so I can’t really b—- about it too much. That was a tough pill. I was angry about that. I went through this whole phase, ‘Oooh men are the new b—-es.’ That’s how I felt. That’s what I was so angry about. I was like I have to get out the bed so I can pay this debt.”
Nash, who was married to minister Don Nash for 16 years before divorcing him in 2007, was struck by Braxton’s admission.
“So many women have to pay upon exiting their marriage. California is a not fault state. Whoever makes the most pays! Been there. Done that,” Nash commented on Instagram.
As both women had amassed more success than their spouses by the time their marriages had ended, they were required to pay up in the process.
Like Nash, many fans agreed with Braxton.
“ain’t that the truth.”
“I one heard that divorce is worst than a death at a time, not sure about that……😢”
“@niecynash1 I HATE IT! I hate that Sherri Shepherd had to pay alimony and child support for a kid that wasn’t hers, too. I’m still mad for her and MJB.”
