Meghan McCain, Abby Hunstman Called Out for Trying to Deflect Debate Over Ivanka Trump’s Emails: ‘Hypocrisy At Its Finest’

The View” devolved into a shouting match Tuesday when co-hosts Meghan McCain and Abby Huntsman locked horns with fellow co-hosts over Ivanka Trump‘s use of a personal email account.

Ivanka, the daughter of President Donald Trump, is embroiled in controversy after a non-partisan watchdog group revealed that she had used her personal email to discuss or relay official government business last year. Ivanka, 37, claimed she was unaware of the rules surrounding personal v. private email use.

Co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin noted the hypocrisy of it all, recalling how Donald Trump had made such a fuss over then-opponent Hilary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server and how he called on federal authorities to “lock her up!”

“This girl was there in 2016,” Behar said of Ivanka. “She was watching TV just like the rest of us. How dumb can a person be to go and make the same mistake that he (Trump) has been bitching about this whole time?”

Hostin called B.S. on Ivanka’s claims of ignorance, saying she should’ve been well aware of the White House email protocols.

“I think it’s the height of hypocrisy quite frankly …,” she added. “She knew that her father, that was one of the things he ran on. That was a significant part of his platform. But I think that’s what happens when you have this type of nepotism going on in the White House.”

Huntsman chimed in, arguing that folks should focus on the “bigger picture” of threats to the U.S. election systems by China and Russia. She added that government authorities likely wouldn’t find any dirt if they were to investigate Ivanka.

Friend and fellow conservative co-host McCain wasted no time reminding viewers that Clinton deleted hundreds of emails during her investigation and then had aides destroy her devices with a hammer.

“But does that change the fact that people are using their personal emails?” Goldberg cut in. “Regardless of how they did it.”

“Destroying emails during an investigation is still different,” McCain replied, further downplaying the severity of Ivanka’s actions. “Do I think it’s hypocritical, absolutely. But what we should be most fearful of is the fact that our president is still using his personal phone. I care about that much more than I care about this with Ivanka.”

Viewers couldn’t help but notice the conservative co-hosts’ efforts to sweep the issue under the rug.

“Notice how some want to move quickly from it?” one Twitter user wrote. “There’s more important things for us to worry about”. Yes, there are other issues, but let’s add this to the list just as #45 ran his campaign on it.”

“Whether Ivanka is as guilty is yet to be distinguished,” wrote another. “However, I do not care for how deflective Abby and Meghan are about issues that effect Republicans. What makes this such a high point of hypocrisy is how vocal he was about it. Why downplay the irony?”

Another user agreed, writing, “BIG surprise McCain and [Huntsman] say it’s no big deal #hypocrisyatitsfinest!!”
