Beyoncé Praised by Florence Griffith Joyner’s Daughter For Portraying Her Mom On Halloween: ‘My Mother is Resting in Paradise’

First Beyoncé received praise from Toni Braxton after she dressed up like the R&B star for Halloween, and now she’s getting a big thank you from the daughter of Olympic legend Florence Griffith Joyner.

The “Lemonade” singer dressed as Flo-Jo for Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Halloween bash, and JAY-Z went as Tommie Smith, the famed track and field star who put his fist up with John Carlos at the 1968 games.

Of course, Mary Jo was touched because her mother passed away in 1998 at 38 years old.

“Unreal. @beyonce, thank you for giving my mom the recognition, paying the homage, and keeping my mother’s memory alive. And to JAY-Z for bringing homage to Tommie Smith,” wrote Mary Jo Griffith. “Track & field world needs more acknowledgment. My mother is resting in paradise smiling. Thank you momma Queen B.”

For the past several years now, Beyoncé, JAY-Z and Blu Ivy have dressed in some pretty inventive Halloween costumes and they’ve all gotten huge attention.

One year, for example, Bey portrayed Janet Jackson, while Blue came as her brother Michael. Then another year they all dressed as characters from the film “Coming to America” and most said they nailed it.

And even the singer’s mother Tina Knowles got into the fun one year and joined her daughter and Blue to become the group Salt-N-Pepa.

This year it’s safe to say that B and Jay’s track & field outfits received just as much attention as previous costumes, if not more. People also loved Mary Jo’s post about her mother being remembered.

“It was awesome,” one person wrote. “So happy she honored your ma. Strong women.”

“Your mom was an inspiration for so many, including me,” wrote someone else. “This was a beautiful reminder of the impact that your mom made.”
