Actress and one-time “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kim Fields was one of the dozens of celebrities who had to evacuate an event in New Jersey over the weekend over an anonymous bomb threat and gas leak.
Fields had been participating at the horror-themed Chiller Theatre Expo’s autograph show among stars like Carmen Electra and Robert Wagner at the Parsippany Hilton and neighboring Hampton Inn Parsippany in Parsippany, New Jersey Saturday, Oct. 27.
It was 2:29 p.m., when officials ordered an evacuation of the Parsippany Hilton ballroom and loading dock when a gas leak was confirmed, according to Extra. Those present said stars had been in the middle of posing with fans when this occurred.
As that was happening, a Hilton worker told authorities someone had called in about a bomb threat. While police cars, ambulances and what bystanders called “bomb trucks” arrived on the scene, by the time the bomb threat was reported, the building had been cleared. Everyone was told to keep at least 100 feet back from the premises.
Fields shared the news on her Instagram account Sunday, Oct. 28.
“Unfortunately this was also a part of my #AboutLastNight S/O to The Chiller Theatre convention team as well as the local first responders and law enforcement for keeping us all safe. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,” she wrote.
That memo came after she went on Twitter the day before to give a play by play of what had occurred. Fields said initially the first floor of the hotel was ordered to evacuate because of the leak. But then, the entire facility was cleared out.
“Let me tell y’all, I packed my wallet, my laptop and them fly-ass red boots that I had on,” she says with a laugh. “So we drove like 10 minutes to this Friday’s [restaurant]. And see that little white sign right there? That little white sign got the never to say they closed!”
Fields was hoping the convention wouldn’t try to add on the hour that was lost due to the evacuation that evening so she could see Michael McDonald in concert.
