Katt Williams Hit With Another Legal Issue Amid Arrest in Oregon

Katt Williams has been hit with a default judgment in a case his accuser says he’s been avoiding for years.

A judge has ruled the comedian is responsible for damages over a 2016 incident where Williams punched a fan who began taking a photo of him, The Blast reported Monday, Oct. 8.

Tyrell Williams is the fan in question and he sued Williams two years ago after he claimed the Emmy winner hit him at an after-party for one of the comic’s stand-up gigs. Tyrell said that when he raised his iPhone to snap a picture of the star for Snapchat, Katt “suddenly and without warning” got up and slapped the device from Tyrell’s hand. Then, Tyrell said Katt hit him in the face three times with a closed fist and dipped out of the venue soon after.

Tyrell, who said he was injured and suffered from mental pain, recently demanded a default judgment in the case and claimed Katt has ignored the suit for months. According to Tyrell, he served Katt with his filing while he was at a hearing for another issue in May.

The plaintiff is seeking unspecified damages in his lawsuit.

Since then, the judge granted the motion for a default judgment, making Williams accountable for the incident. The amount of damages he owes will be decided at a future court date.

This development comes after Katt’s arrest in Portland, Ore., on Friday night. The actor was accused of assaulting a driver after the two got into a heated argument over transporting Katt’s dog. The incident occurred while Katt was heading to the Moda Center for a “Wild N Out” improv comedy show. The Atlantic Aviation town car driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital while Katt fled the scene.

The “Atlanta” actor was ultimately arrested on fourth-degree assault charges and is being held at $2,500 bond.
