Fans Defend Damon Wayans After White Folks Trash Him for Quitting ‘Lethal Weapon’ Show

Damon Wayans announced that he’s quitting the show “Lethal Weapon,” and a lot of white folks are blasting him.

“I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13 [episodes],” he told EURweb. “So I really don’t know what they’re planning, but that’s what I’m planning. I’m a 58-year-old diabetic, and I’m working 16-hour days. … I’m going to return to the stage and try to find my smile again.”

The backlash that Wayans received is twofold. For one, people said they really enjoyed the Fox series, and they’re upset that he’s leaving.

And two: People are mad at the actor because he reportedly got his former co-star Clayne Crawford fired, after Crawford made people on the set uncomfortable and injured Wayans during an episode he directed.

In May Wayans posted a photo of himself with a bloody cut on his head and blamed  Crawford for not creating a safer environment.

The “In Living Color” alum also said his former co-star seemed to enjoy making women cry on the set and was even branded an “emotional terrorist.” But regardless of the bad behavior reported on Crawford, many came for Wayans instead.

“What a freakin’ loser,” someone wrote. “After getting Crawford fired and then he dumps the show. Good riddance. Bring back @ClayneCrawford.”

“So he gets his co-star fired and then torpedoes the show,” another person tweeted. “What a bastard.”

“Hey Damon, thanks for getting Clayne fired before you left,” added someone named Metro Mindy. “You’re just a mean old man who had it out for Clayne.”

There were other fans who celebrated his decision.

“Good for you. All the money in the world won’t help if your health is bad.”

“Do NOT mess with Major Payne!”

“There’s only so much even a WAYAN’S BROTHER Can Take”

“Having worked with Damon for years on ILC, I can say he’sone of the nicest, easiest going guys to work with ever.”

Wayans hasn’t responded to the backlash yet, and Fox hasn’t said anything about him leaving the show either. For the third season, Crawford has been replaced by actor Sean William Scott.
