Fired White House aide Omarosa Manigault-Newman stopped by “The View” Monday, where she shared her own theory about who might be behind the damning New York Times op-ed bashing President Donald Trump.
Manigault-Newman rattled off a list of potential culprits last week, but on Monday suggested the anonymous author might not work directly under the president at all.
“I’ve been very vocal about the fact that I believe it is someone, a senior staffer in [Vice President Mike] Pence’s office,” she told co-host Abby Huntsman, who brought up the op-ed and specifically asked Omarosa on her thoughts on who penned the piece.
“I went through every email that came out of Pence’s office,” the former Trump aide continued. “Because the tone of the op-ed sounded like his chief of staff.”
Manigault-Newman stopped short of naming the staffer, Georgia-native James “Nick” Ayers, but said there were consistencies in the writing style and language of the op-ed that pointed straight to him. She noted there are 100 high-ranking staffers in the White House, so it could also easily be any one of them.
“Putting out a person, a name — you realize that puts someone in a really difficult position because there have been a lot of names thrown out there,” Huntsman interjected, asking if Omarosa was naming names for the sake of being “vindictive” or “settling a score” despite asking the former reality star to do specifically that.
Omarosa quickly shut her down.
“No, no, no. Let’s be clear,” she began. “When you have all of the Cabinet secretaries submitting letters saying ‘it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me’ — the White House has risen it to a level of whodunit. If they would’ve just ignored this op-ed, it would not be to the frenzy that it is right now.”
Hunstman’s apparent flip did not go unnoticed by viewers,
“So @HuntsmanAbby asks Omarosa her opinion then blames her for maybe putting someone in danger for giving her opinion on a question she asked her? HUH? Then why ask her? WTH kind of question/response is that?”
The former “Apprentice” star went on to allege that Pence was already building his own campaign for when Trump is booted from the White House.
