R&B singer Jill Scott and her estranged husband Mike Dobson are officially divorced after 15 months of marriage.
The “Gettin’ In the Way” artist called it quits with her husband in 2017 and claimed irreconcilable differences in divorce documents, Bossip reported. However, the two were able to put aside their differences in court on Thursday and a Tennessee judge accepted their settlement agreement. The court seemingly invalidated the prenup Dobson disputed during their divorce.
Scott and her ex-husband’s dissolution became quite messy after the singer also cited “inappropriate marital conduct that such further cohabitation would be unsafe and improper.” Dobson challenged his wife and demanded to have their prenup be voided. He also sued for $500,000 and requested for spousal support which was denied by the judge.
“She’s an evil woman … It’s like what Jill Scott wants, Jill Scott gets,” Dobson told the news outlet in November 2017. “She’s got issues. There’s no men in that family, there’s only women. … And when a man comes in, it’s like a challenge.”
The 49-year-old also claimed the musician locked him out of their house before and gave away his pet dog. The judge ordered a restraining order between the two and prohibited them from speaking out in public.
However, the officially divorced couple placed the drama behind them and signed their settlement agreement according to court officials. The case was closed the same day and the pair will not head to trial.
