Mona Scott-Young Reveals Erica Mena Initially Left LHH Franchise Because She Thought She Was ‘Beyond the Show’

TV mogul Mona Scott-Young is dishing on what led “Love and Hip Hop New York” star Erica Mena to quit the series before rejoining the franchise.

Mena starred on LHHNY beginning in 2011 for season 2 as a supporting cast member before coming on as a main cast member through season 5. She quit in 2015 after she got in a relationship with rapper Bow Wow. It was that same year that she famously filmed the reunion separately explaining to VH1, “I honestly felt like throughout the whole season I was the main target. It was actually a moment for me to let off steam and be able to close that chapter of my life.”

However, by 2018, Mena came back to the LHH series, this time joining the Atlanta cast.

On “The Wendy Williams Show” Wednesday, July 11, “Love and Hip Hop” franchise creator Scott-Young dished on the situation.

“That show is a tough show to make. These guys are out there putting their lives out there — and believe it or not, it’s not made up so here you are going through this rough stuff …”

Williams then interjected to explain what Bow Wow copped to in a 2017 interview.

The rapper-actor told “Ebro In the Morning” he persuaded his then-girlfriend to quit the show because it affected his work on “CSI: Cyber.”

“I just felt like the stuff… if she kept doing it if we were together, it bled into CBS. I was doing CSI on CBS at the time, it was going to bleed into it. Because when you’re one, you’re one,” he said. “If she got into a fight, I’d hear about it, and I gotta answer to it. … So, I’d tried my best to protect her and shield her. I moved her from New York, moved her out to L.A. to get her away from the mass hysteria that was going on.”

“She also felt like she was beyond the show,” Scott-Young added on the daytime talk show. “I always say never say never. … We were happy to have her back. My doors are always open.”
