Evelyn Lozada is taking her former publicist to court for defamation.
The “Basketball Wives” star filed documents Thursday accusing Danika Berry of spreading lies about Lozada to her co-stars in order to have the falsehoods featured on the reality show.
Lozada’s suit focuses on the rumors Berry allegedly spread about the reality star regarding her marriage to former NFLer Chad Johnson, according to a May 31 report from The Blast. After Lozada and her publicist had a falling out and parted ways in December 2016, that’s when she alleges Berry spread lies to reporters.
One incident Lozada referenced in the filing was when Berry allegedly told a reporter that Lozada had a secret affair with a well-known New Orleans music mogul while she was married to Johnson. Lozada said the remark was published on a website in February 2018.
While sources told the website Lozada hit Berry with a cease and desist letter after the claims were published, Berry allegedly later told Lozada’s “Basketball Wives” co-star Tami Roman that Lozada was the actual aggressor in the domestic dispute with Chad Johnson that then led to their 2012 divorce. During that altercation, Lozada alleged her then-husband head-butted her during an argument; he was arrested and charged.
As for why Berry told Roman her business, Lozada claims her former publicist wanted the false information brought up on the Vh1 series to hurt her personally and professionally.
Lozada, who has since dedicated her time to charitable work for domestic violence victims, seeks unspecified damages in the lawsuit.
In response to the lawsuit, Berry’s representatives told “The Blast,” “She has no knowledge of the lawsuit or the allegations within it. She is not a viewer of the show and is not aware of any storylines.”
