Some might say being reactive in everyday life is a horrible idea and even worse on social media.
That’s what Chance the Rapper found out when he was ridiculed for quickly defending Kanye West’s recent support of Donald Trump.
IAs we previously shared, West said that he loves Trump, who then thanked him on Twitter. Afterwards, Chance told everyone to leave his friend alone and let him support who he wants.
“Talked to him two days ago. He’s in a great space and not affected by folk tryna question his mental or physical health,” Chance tweeted earlier this week. “Black people don’t have to be Democrats.”
Then a day later, after the criticism didn’t dry up but only increased, Chance issued an apology and said he was just trying to stick up for his friend.
“Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about my city and my loved ones,” he wrote. “Kanye West is not just a mentor or big homie to me, he’s my family. No matter how much I may disagree with him, it’s hard for me to watch people talk about someone I love – even if they were justified in doing so.”
“I didn’t speak up because I agree with what Kanye had to say or ’cause I f–k with Trump,” added Chance. “I did it because I wanted to help my friend and ’cause I felt like I was being used to attack him. Unfortunately, my attempt to support Kanye is being used to discredit my brothers and sisters in the movement, and I can’t sit by and let that happen either.”

On Friday (April 27), about an hour and a half before Chance’s apology, Trump thanked him along with West.
“Kanye West has performed a great service to the Black Community,” he wrote. “Big things are happening and eyes are being opened for the first times in decades. Legacy stuff. Thank you also to Chance and Dr. Darrell Scott. They really get it.”
After Chance’s apology, people responded with comments that ranged from the forgiving to the critical, which you can see below.
Kanye West has performed a great service to the Black Community – Big things are happening and eyes are being opened for the first time in Decades – Legacy Stuff! Thank you also to Chance and Dr. Darrell Scott, they really get it (lowest Black & Hispanic unemployment in history).

Trumps policies would literally kill poor black people in Chicago that Chance fights so hard for. So yes, there is a right and a wrong and trump ain’t right. Not sorry

You just said right and wrong is an opinion. Trump’s sexual assault, treason, intimidation, racism, and xenophobia aren’t bipartisan or morally ambiguous issues. Stop your failed attempts at normalizing this bullshit
