While it may have been one of rap’s worst-kept secrets in recent years, Cardi B has finally confirmed she’s pregnant with her first child. The MC, who unveiled the news during her performance on “Saturday Night Live” April 7, was largely met with congratulatory messages on the Twittersphere. However, some detractors pushed her to post (and later delete) the following message on her Instagram Story.
“This is why I did not wanted to say nothing,” she wrote Sunday. “People be so thirsty to scrutinize and try to destroy something that it suppose to be a blessing.”
Rumors swirled beginning February when TMZ reported a source said she was three to four months along and declined to drink or be in party mode on Super Bowl weekend.
And amid her public confirmation, not everyone was feeling congratulatory.
“Cardi B dumb,” someone tweeted. “Why the f— would you get pregnant in the prime of your career 😑🤦🏽♂️….”
“I’m SO disappointed that Cardi B is pregnant,” someone else said. “Her career is at such a defining point, she’s got the industry eating out the palm of her hand. I’m not saying women can’t do both I just wish she delayed it a few years.”
“Cardi B really pregnant so disappointing tbh…not because it’ll affect her career but bc she chose a boof ass n—- to be the father.”
However, not everyone has counted her out.
“That’s why I don’t understand why ppl act like Cardi B’s career is gonna be over now that she’s pregnant…” someone tweeted. “Now you know damn well she ain’t going nowhere 🙄😩🤣 she stay winning 🤩😆.”
“Why are people acting like Cardi B getting pregnant was a mistake/the end of her career???” someone else said. “Get with the times pls.”
“Just because @iamcardib is pregnant doesn’t mean her career is over 🤦🏽♀️ y’all need to chill 😂,” another wrote. “It’s not like she can’t have her baby and go on tour and even so she went gold in less than 24 hours when her album dropped I’m sure she’s straight 👌🏽.”
