Could A ‘Black Panther’ Spin-off Franchise Be In the Works Featuring Okoye?

Okoye, the general of Black Panther’s Dora Milaje, could get her own trilogy if Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has his way.

The head of the army that protects T’Challa in the blockbuster smash, “Black Panther,” eagerly and deftly kicks butt to protect her country. And Feige wouldn’t mind seeing more of the character portrayed by Danai Gurira.

“Okoye, I think I’d watch three action films just Okoye,” he told Entertainment Weekly Friday, March 9. “I’m not saying we’re doing that, but I’m saying that we’re intrigued by [Okoye and T’Challa’s sister, Shuri]. Frankly, as I’ve said before, finishing these first 22 [Marvel] movies is really all we’re thinking about at this point.”

One of those 22 movies includes the sequel to “Black Panther,” which has gotten heavy support from Black audiences — who have even raced to the film’s defense following negative reviews overseas.

While Feige says there’s “nothing specific to reveal” about the next installment, he affirmed that it is in the works.

“One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two,” he continued. “There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first ‘Black Panther.’ We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

But Twitter users are largely keen on a film that centers on Okoye, even if there’s one who disagrees.
