Philadelphia Eagles star Malcolm Jenkins, along with teammates Torrey Smith and Chris Long are among the team’s notable players who say they don’t plan on visiting the White House following their victory over the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.
During an appearance on CNN Monday, Feb. 5, Jenkins made it clear that he’d be skipping out on the winning team’s tradition of stopping by the White House to celebrate.
“I don’t have a message for the president,” Jenkins said. “My message has been clear all year. I’m about creating positive changes in the communities I come from, whether it be Philadelphia, New Jersey, Ohio, Louisiana or this entire country.
“I want to see changes in our criminal justice system,” he added. “I want to see us push for economical and educational advancement in communities of color and low-income communities. And I want to see between our communities and our law enforcement be advanced.”
Smith also made his stance clear via Twitter Monday. Meanwhile, Long responded, “Are you kidding me?” when asked if he’d be accompanying his teammates to the White House.
