After months of speculation over whether or not T.I. and Tiny Harris’ marriage has officially kicked the bucket, the rapper has finally confronted it head on and says the union is getting in the way of moving his family “onward and upward.”
The talk about marriage sparked when T.I appeared on “The Angie Martinez Show” Friday, April 7, and complimented the host on her engagement. When asked if he had any advice, T.I. said he still believed in marriage “for some” but wouldn’t say if he felt that way for himself.
Tip said “T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle,” his VH1 reality series that focuses on the couple and their seven children, had wrapped shooting as he and Tiny were getting separated after six years of marriage.
“There is no beef, like, we good,” Tip said. “We straight. Everybody else is the one who got the problem. We straight, we see each other, we speak, we talk, spend time together. We good.
“[She’s] still one of the best friends I have in the world,” he says. “I can just be a better best friend than a husband.”
Recently, T.I. has been linked to model Bernice Burgos who has been engaging in an Instagram beef with Tiny.
T.I. explained that his goal to build the family legacy means he needs to cut out any diversions — and marriage is one of them.
“I’m on a mission, I’m striving to take my family, it’s name and our legacy as far and high as it can possibly go,” he said. “It just seems to me like marriage and what marriage means and what marriage does, it’s just one of those things that’s [sic] just gon’ distract me and deter me.
“That could be selfish, but, ultimately, I’m the patriarch of this family and it’s my responsibility to take us onward and upward and that’s what I intend to do,” Tip said. “I just have, I think, a purpose and I just don’t always have the time to do the thoughtful, considerate things that a husband should do.
“Me knowing that about myself, I’m not gon’ deter myself from my plan, I’m gon’ move and whoever move with me, they coming with me and whoever not gon’ move with me, I’ll be back.”
