The latest Atlanta Black Star original dives into the growing earnings and employment gaps between Black and white men.
According to a recent Duke University study published in the National Bureau of Economic Research, the earnings gap has widened back to what it was in the 1950s, though the employment gap has narrowed for educated Black males.
By 1970, the gap began to widen once again after narrowing a decade prior. The study showed that unemployment rates for white men was at 8 percent in 1960 but increased to 17 percent by 2014. But for Black men, the numbers were worse. In 1960, Black men accounted for 19 percent of job seekers, but in 2014, they were 35 percent.
