John Carlos Has Some Much Needed Words of Wisdom for Shaq and Other Kaepernick Critics

In a Sept. 29 interview with TMZ Sports, 1968 Olympian John Carlos skewers critics of San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest.

For the last month, Kaepernick’s national anthem protest against police brutality has become a phenomenon propelling the backup QB into the national spotlight. Athletes around the NFL, in college, high school, the NBA and soccer have joined the protest. However, there have also been some detractors and critics. For instance, Shaquille O’Neal questioned Kaepernick’s timing in early September.

“What happened last year?” Shaq asked. “How come you didn’t decide to do this last year or the year before that or the year before that?”

But Carlos feels that Kaepernick does not deserve the scrutiny he is currently receiving.

“To Shaq and all the other guys that want to be the naysayers to what Kaepernick is doing,” Carlos starts, “all I can say to them is they better be careful on how they gonna come out … Which side of history they’re gonna come out in the future.”
