On Friday, Sept. 16, Media Matters reporter Carlos Maza recorded an encounter between a Trump supporter holding a banner and a Black pedestrian debating over who works harder in the nation.
This encounter occurred outside Trump’s newest hotel in Washington, D.C.
In the clip, the Trump supporter claims that white people are the hardest working people in the country.
However, the Black man quickly rebuts that claim and offers a quick history lesson.
“You see these buildings down here? Black people built the buildings,” he says.
The pedestrian adds that this country was built on enslaved Black people’s free labor.
“There’s a lot of Black people with residual pain,” he starts. “… As soon as a white person steps into America, they have an advantage just by being white.”
