Joy Reid Asks the Crucial Question Every Sane Person Knows the Answer to About Melania Trump’s Plagiarism Scandal

In the immediate aftermath of Melania Trump‘s Republican National Convention speech, MSNBC‘s Joy Reid makes the case that First Lady Michelle Obama would have not been protected if this plagiarism scandal happened to her.

In the clip, Reid says that Obama would be crucified for such an accusation and would have not been given a pass at all.

“I think we’re all very quickly passing the responsibility onto staff,” Reid says. “Clearly, this is a campaign that is poorly staffed. I think that has been clear for a long time. But they sent Melania Trump over to Matt Lauer to say that she wrote it [the speech] … I doubt that we would dismiss the idea that Michelle Obama had anything to do with it.”

The MSNBC anchor says that blaming a staff member for the SNAFU is a mistake because Melania is old enough to understand the importance of her speech.

“She’s an adult woman,” Reid explains.” She’s grown up. She has participated in the delivery of this speech. She gave the speech. So I think you have to give responsibility — sure, to the staff, the campaign management has been poor here — but Melania Trump did give the speech and Michelle Obama wouldn’t have gotten a pass.”
