D.L. Hughley Breaks Down in Tears Discussing Police Brutality but Not Before Properly Checking CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Black Criminality

Actor, comedian and political commentator D.L. Hughley dissects the recent killings of Black men Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by police officers in open-carry states on today’s edition of CNN‘s New Day.

In the news segment, host Chris Cuomo says that Black men have more interactions with police and that is why there are so many instances of police brutality.

Hughley did not agree with this assessment of police brutality. He points out that there are more white people in the country and that 78 percent of crimes are committed by whites. Then he brings up intra-racial crime to make his point.

“The notion Black-on-Black crime would mean that there is no other crime in this country,” the comedian explains. “[In Colorado], a man goes into a theater and kills white people; they don’t call it white-on-white crime. People kill what they are around.”

Hughley says that poverty is the major cause of crime in Black communities.

“The reason [we can see police brutality] is because technology allows us to see ourselves … What is the good of body cameras if we don’t have bias-proof glasses?”

In the last couple of minutes, Hughley shares his concerns for his own children. He states that his kids are adults now, but he still waits for them to come home safely because of the possibility of police brutality.
