Bobby Brown has been making headlines for his claims about the late Whitney Houston, his ex-wife and mother of the pair’s only daughter, the late Bobbi Kristina Brown. The New Edition member is promoting his new memoir Every Little Step, and in a new interview, he made claims that disturbed his former mother-in-law, Cissy Houston.

In a lengthy statement to People magazine, the gospel singer slammed Brown for focusing on Whitney in his June 7 interview for ABC’s 20/20 instead of mentioning his own family’s impact on his life.

“I can’t help but wonder why,” Houston said.

“I only wish he had loved and respected her enough to make some of the negative statements about her and Krissi while Whitney was alive and able to respond from her perspective,” she continued. “On the Oprah show when Whitney said Bobby had spit in her face and Krissi had seen it, Krissi was in the audience and available to challenge anything her mother said. Bobby was alive and free to dispute what she said. He chose not to; instead he waited to speak about her when she could no longer speak for herself.”

Houston also said Brown’s claims that her family blames him for introducing Whitney to drugs are untrue. And she denies the “I Will Always Love You” singer did drugs on her wedding day. He told Robin Roberts he saw his bride “hunched over a bureau snorting a line of coke” just before the ceremony began.

“I am deeply disappointed that this interview to promote the story of Bobby’s life seemed to be more of an exposé on Whitney’s life,” Houston said. “My problem with Bobby has always been that he became her husband but not her helpmate or protector.”

But Brown revealed he was planning to have Bobbi Kristina move in with him in Los Angeles two days before she was found unresponsive in a bathtub last year. Her mother died before the 2012 Grammy Awards after being found in the same position. Bobbi Kristina died in July 2015 after spending nearly five months in a coma.

Houston said she prays “Nippy and Krissi… will soon rest in peace.”

She said she would not address all of Brown’s claims “point for point.” That includes his allegation that if Whitney’s friend and former assistant Robyn Crawford had been around, the Sparkle star would still be alive. In his book, Brown also asserted that Whitney was bisexual and in a long relationship with Crawford, who is openly gay and now has children with her wife. Cissy Houston has previously denied those claims.
