On last Friday’s edition of CNN’s Outfront with Erin Burnett, the host and journalist and her panel discussed Donald Trump’s latest gaffe where the presumptive Republican presidential nominee singled out the lone Black person in a rally in California.
In the 8-minute clip, vehement Trump supporter Pastor Darrell Scott defended the Republican candidate’s “Look at my African-American over here!” line by claiming that it is a “term of endearment.” Scott even says that Trump is willing to be politically correct because he used the term “African-American.”
“Everybody is walking on eggshells.” Scott continues, “Trump was generally appreciative to have the man there.”
Former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter called the statement “ignorant.” Nutter said, “This is strange behavior.”
CNN commentator Tara Setmayer called Scott’s support for Trump “political Stockholm Syndrome.”
She completely hammers Trump for making the comments and being racially insensitive to the man in the crowd. The conservative commentator also attacks Scott for his continual defense of Trump.
“He felt the need to have to point him out because he was Black and in the crowd,” Setmayer explained.
The conversation began to heat up between Setmayer and Scott because the pastor began to take the criticism personally.
Scott told Setmayer, “You’re trying to act like you’re not aware of the racial climate in America!… The only reason I stand out as a Trump supporter is because I’m Black!”
Scott goes on to say that “You find me an aberration because I’m Black and I support Trump!”
